We all want to have less work and more money, but sometimes you don't have the money you need to make everything that an independent artist needs, especially when you begin and you are yet not able to get a signed contract with a record label. Here are some ways you can use your own skills to take you further and help you become a successful indie artist.

Use your skills to help you build.

We all have something we can do better than others. Find one or more things in you that can help you and get going, I'll help you but you gotta use your imagination as well, don't just do as I say.

Are you good in writing?

Write your own promotion texts, write it nicely and attract more attention by using you writing skills and improving them a bit. If you'll learn a bit more about how to write tempting content, you can be your own copywriter until you'll get to the next level.

Can you dance?

Make a video of yourself dancing to the sound of your songs and upload it on social media. Make a special dance and let people see how special you and your video and dance are!

Are you a good painter?

Paint your own cover photos! Instead of using an image each time, try to surprise with sketches of your own! Get creative here, this can be extremely beautiful and unique. I actually did it in one of my unofficial releases a few years ago. I might release that song some day, who knows.

Are you good with computers?

Use these skills to open your own Email list and to make you own website, these days there are many basic services that are being handed for free. So push yourself to the limit and do some internet work for yourself, until you'll have the label do it for you.

Do you have a lot of friends?

That's amazing! use your friends to help you with spreading you music and to get gigs. Tell your friends that for each gig they'll give you - you'll give them 10% of the gig income! Be creative, think outside the box!

Do you speak another language?

If you speak another language, you can use that to promote yourself in a region that you speak its local language, this is something unique that not many people will have, this way you can build a fan base in a specific country and later on you can perform there.

Are you good at filming?

This is one of the best things to have. As the internet and websites like YouTube grow and grow, if you can make professional looking films, you can have a major advantage over others, and listeners will love your clips. Honestly, I'm not the best film maker, but with the help of a friend, I have made my own video clips, and they are really nice. You can see an example on my song "Old For My Time" on YouTube.

Conclusion

So as you can see there are many ways in which you can become a better indie artist. And whatever your goal is - getting signed or becoming a professional indie artist, this is a good place to start.
